King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden has visited Ukraine for the first time since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The visit is taking place at the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
This was reported by SVT.
Today, the King of Sweden is in Lviv, where he joined Zelenskyy in attending a memorial ceremony and laying a wreath. Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmér Stenergård is also participating in the trip.
The visit’s itinerary includes visits to schools and hospitals. As the Swedish Foreign Minister noted, this visit marks the monarch’s first trip to Ukraine since the war began and underscores the broad support for Ukraine from Swedish society.
The King of Sweden last visited Ukraine in 2008.
“King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden began his visit to Ukraine by paying tribute, together with me, to our fallen soldiers. We are very grateful for this gesture of respect,” Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram.
