        Svetolina advanced to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open after defeating Russia’s Andreeva

        Ukraine’s top tennis player Elina Svitolina advanced to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, defeating Russia’s Mirra Andreeva. The round of 16 match ended with a victory for the Ukrainian in two sets.

        In the Australian Open round of 16, Elina Svitolina defeated Mirra Andreeva 6-2, 6-4, according to Champion. The match lasted 1 hour and 23 minutes and was the second face-to-face duel between the tennis players — the score of their personal meetings is now even, 1-1.

        In the quarterfinals of the tournament in Melbourne, Svitolina will play against the third-ranked player in the world, Coco Gauff from the USA. The Australian Open is played on hard courts and has Grand Slam status.

        This is the fourth time the 31-year-old from Odessa has reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, having previously reached this stage in 2018, 2019, and 2025. Overall, this match was Svitolina’s 14th quarterfinal in Grand Slam tournaments.

        Since the start of the 2026 season, the Ukrainian has not suffered a single defeat, winning nine matches in a row and claiming the title at the tournament in Auckland.

        Svitolina also remains the only representative of Ukraine who has made it past the first round of the Australian Open in the women’s singles. On her way to the quarterfinals, she defeated Spain’s Cristina Bucsa, Poland’s Linda Klimowicz, and Russia’s Diana Shnaider.
