Seven Dead, Three Injured in Major Road Accident Near Lviv

A major road accident occurred early this morning, 15 December, at 05:30 on the Ternopil–Lviv–Rava-Ruska motorway near the village of Chyzhykiv in Lviv district.

The Communications Department of the Lviv Regional Police reports that the collision involved three vehicles: a BMW, a DAF road train, and a Mercedes Sprinter minibus.

Tragically, seven people lost their lives at the scene—all of them passengers in the Mercedes Sprinter. Authorities are working to confirm the victims’ identities.

Three others sustained injuries, including the 45-year-old truck driver, the 39-year-old driver of the minibus, and a 23-year-old passenger of the minibus. They have been hospitalised in Lviv, where their conditions and injuries are being assessed.

Police investigators, forensic experts, and other services are actively working at the scene to determine the circumstances of the crash and identify all those involved.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated under Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to violations of road safety rules or vehicle operation. The article carries a penalty of up to eight years in prison and potential revocation of driving privileges for up to three years.

A pre-trial investigation is underway.
