President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia “itself chose to end the partial silence” that had lasted for several days. According to him, during the night of May 12, Russian forces launched more than 200 attack drones against Ukraine and carried out dozens of airstrikes.
According to the president, Russian forces also used more than 80 aerial bombs and conducted over 30 air attacks overnight. Attack drones were shot down in the Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv regions, as well as in Kyiv and the surrounding region.
Zelenskyy said the attacks damaged energy infrastructure, apartment buildings, a kindergarten, and a civilian railway locomotive.

The president noted that there were wounded and killed as a result of the strikes. He expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
Zelenskyy also stressed that Ukraine would respond “symmetrically” to Russia’s actions. According to him, Moscow must take a step toward a real and lasting ceasefire.
The president called on international partners not to ease sanctions pressure on Russia and to continue joint efforts for security, justice, and a reliable peace.
