Norway has transferred air defense missiles to Ukraine to ensure the continued operation of NASAMS systems. The delivery took place amid Russia’s ongoing missile and drone attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

This was reported on the website of the Norwegian government.

As Russia continues its massive missile strikes on Ukraine, Norway has transferred a significant number of air defense missiles to Ukraine so that the Norwegian NASAMS system can continue to provide protection.

On January 22, Norwegian Defense Minister Tore O. Sandvik held his first conversation with the new Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.

Air defense is a priority for Norwegian military support to Ukraine. A total of 85 billion Norwegian kroner has been earmarked for civilian and military aid to Ukraine in 2026. Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said that the country will continue to support Ukraine in its struggle.

“Ukrainians are subjected to rocket and drone attacks almost every night. Currently, large parts of Kyiv remain without heating, water, or electricity as a result of Russian attacks. Last week, I met with President Zelensky in Kyiv, and this is exactly the kind of help they need to defend themselves against these attacks,” said Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide.

NASAMS air defense systems have been transferred to Ukraine by several countries, including the US, Canada, Lithuania, and Norway. The system has proven effective in intercepting Russian missiles. As the owner of the system, Norway has provided additional missiles for use in Ukraine.

“Thanks to cooperation with the United States and other countries, Norway has quickly transferred air defense missiles to Ukraine at a critical stage so that the NASAMS system can continue to protect Ukrainian citizens from deadly air strikes,” said Defense Minister Tore O. Sandvik.
