Direct negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian delegations have ended in Istanbul. The parties agreed to exchange prisoners in a 1000 for 1000 format and agreed on further steps to discuss a possible ceasefire.

This was announced by Russian representative Vladimir Medinsky at a briefing after the talks.
According to Medinsky, Moscow is generally satisfied with the results of the meeting and is ready for further contacts.

“In the coming days, a large-scale exchange of prisoners in the format of 1000 for 1000 will take place,” Medinsky said.

He also said that the Ukrainian side had initiated direct talks at the level of heads of state. Moscow “took note” of this request.

In addition, the parties agreed to prepare their visions for a possible ceasefire and set them out in detail. After that, Medinsky said, negotiations on a future agreement are planned to continue.
