French President Emmanuel Macron has announced a decision to increase the number of nuclear warheads in France’s arsenal. Paris will also no longer disclose precise data on its nuclear capabilities.
This was reported by Le Figaro.
Macron made the announcement about changes to the French arsenal during a speech on the island of Île Longue.
“It is my responsibility to ensure that our deterrence retains its guaranteed destructive power in a dangerous and changing environment,” the French president said.
He announced that he had decided to increase the number of warheads.
“That is why I have ordered an increase in the number of warheads in our arsenal,” Macron said.
The French president also noted that from now on, no precise data on the country’s nuclear potential will be published.
“To put an end to any speculation, we will no longer report the figures of our nuclear arsenal, unlike in the past,” he said.
Concluding his speech, Macron explained the decision with the logic of force.
“To be free, you need to be feared, and to be feared, you need to be strong. This increase in our arsenal is proof of that,” the French president emphasized.
