According to leaker Fixed Focus Digital, Apple will increase the thickness of both the body and camera module in the new Pro lineup, MacRumors reports.
The leaker claims that the iPhone 18 Pro will retain the aluminum frame Apple introduced with the iPhone 17 Pro and will not return to titanium.
According to the leak, materials from Tata suggest that the overall body and rear camera plateau will grow by about 2mm. The leaker added that the final thickness figure “will indeed be somewhat surprising”.
Fixed Focus Digital previously said the iPhone 18 Pro lineup would keep an aluminum alloy body with “indeed excellent” heat dissipation.
At the same time, the leaker warned buyers to be cautious about new color options because of discoloration and surface chipping issues that reportedly affected some iPhone 17 Pro units.
The iPhone 18 Pro models could be around 9.9-10.9mm thick overall, according to the leaker’s estimate. By comparison, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are 8.75mm thick.
Earlier dummy models also suggested that the iPhone 18 Pro Max camera plateau could increase to 11.54mm, compared with 11.23mm on the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
According to MacRumors, the added thickness may be linked to a redesigned main camera system. The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to become Apple’s first iPhone with a variable aperture camera.
That component is rumored to cost Apple 50% more than the current fixed-aperture lens. Suppliers including LG Innotek and Sunny Optical are said to be ramping up production of the new module.
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to launch in September alongside Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
