In Kherson, the 18th century Catherine’s Cathedral was damaged as a result of a Russian attack, which is not the first time it has been targeted by the occupiers.
The church was damaged on December 20 at about 5:00 am when Russian troops on the left bank of the Dnipro River fired on Kherson.
One of the shells hit the light drum under the dome of the cathedral, damaging the facade and interior. According to the diocese, debris filled the interior of the church and covered the surfaces with dust.

This is not the first time that St. Catherine’s Cathedral has been the target of shelling. In August 2023, during an artillery strike, the roof of the cathedral caught fire, and three people riding a trolley next to the church were injured. After the second shelling, four rescuers were injured.
