President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a meeting with Chairman of the NATO Military Committee Giuseppe Cavo Dragonet, who made his first foreign visit in this position to Ukraine.
“Thank you for the decision to start your mission here, in Ukraine. This is a powerful signal of support from NATO and its professionals,’ Zelenskyy said.
Main topics of the meeting
The key issues of the talks were preparations for the next meeting in the Ramstein format and Ukraine’s defence needs. The President stressed that one of the priorities was to implement the decisions of the NATO Washington Summit to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence system.
Zelenskyy emphasised that the Kremlin was not interested in ending the war, and only strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities and increasing international pressure could force the aggressor to make a just peace.
Launch of the NSATU mission
Special attention was paid to the operational launch of the NSATU mission (Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine). The Ukrainian side expects concrete results of its work, in particular, better coordination in the provision of military assistance.
Giuseppe Cavo Dragone confirmed that NATO is committed to fulfilling all its commitments to Ukraine.
“Our main message is that NATO is on your side. We are determined to honour all our commitments and defend our shared values,’ he stressed.
Cooperation in arms production
The parties discussed further military assistance from NATO countries and the possibility of investing in the production of long-range drones in Ukraine based on the Danish model.
Together with the NATO delegation, Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited a defence enterprise to get acquainted with the production capacities and characteristics of Ukrainian long-range weapons. The President spoke to the employees and presented them with state awards.
“Your result is not theoretical – it is real and very important for our army. The enemy is afraid of these weapons, and our partners see what a high level domestic production has reached even in times of war,’ Zelenskyy concluded.
