President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that he is ready to hold elections provided that international partners guarantee security. He has asked the US and European countries to provide guarantees that will allow voting to be organized within 60-90 days.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy made this statement on December 9, according to Novyny.Live.
At the same time, the president noted that the issue of elections in Ukraine is a matter for the Ukrainian people.
“This is a matter for the people of Ukraine, not the people of other countries. With all due respect to our partners. I will say frankly that I am ready for the elections,” Zelenskyy said.
Zelenskyy called rumors that he is clinging to the presidency and therefore the war is not ending an inadequate story. According to the Ukrainian leader, in order to hold elections, first, security is necessary. Second, a legislative basis for the legitimacy of the elections is needed.
“Since this issue is being raised today by the President of the United States of America, our partners, I will respond very briefly. Look, I am ready for the elections. Not only that, but I am now asking the United States of America to help me,” Zelenskyy said.
According to the president, if, together with European colleagues, security for the elections is ensured, then Ukraine will be ready to hold elections in the next 60-90 days.
“I ask that the deputies of our faction, our parliamentarians, prepare legislative proposals on the possibility of changing the legislative framework and the law on elections during martial law,” Zelenskyy said.
The president noted that he expects proposals from partners and MPs tomorrow when he returns to Ukraine.
