Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that possible discussions between NATO and Russia on a new document cannot take place without Ukraine’s participation if they concern its future membership in the Alliance. According to him, it is important that partners discuss Ukraine’s potential place in NATO directly with Kyiv, even if some negotiations may take place without the Ukrainian side.

The head of state said this in an interview with journalist Piers Morgan, adding that Ukraine will respond to any unexpected decisions if they arise. At the same time, he stressed that he does not consider historical discussions about the war to be useful, as they, in his opinion, only delay the process and distract from the transition to a diplomatic settlement.

Zelensky noted that he is well versed in Russian history and society, emphasising his own experience of visiting various cities in Russia and his knowledge of the mentality of its citizens. At the same time, he stressed that Russia’s current political system is the choice of Russian society itself.

The President stressed that the key issues remain security and the need to end the war against Ukraine as soon as possible. According to him, this is what he intends to focus on in any negotiations, emphasising the importance of a quick and effective peace.
