The Economist has published a report claiming that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy allegedly instructed officials to prepare for another two to three years of war. However, sources within the Ukrainian government denied the report.

        This was reported by RBC-Ukraine.

According to The Economist, Ukraine remains capable of sustaining its defense effort for a prolonged period despite ongoing challenges.

The publication described the current battlefield situation as “the most positive in recent years,” citing the effective use of drones that helped disrupt Russia’s ground offensive.

The article also claimed that Ukrainian forces are eliminating more Russian soldiers than Moscow can mobilize.

At the same time, The Economist identified internal political tensions, public fatigue from the war, and corruption scandals as key risks for Ukraine.

Among other issues, the publication mentioned the so-called “Mindichgate” case, allegations of influence by the Presidential Office over the media landscape, and pressure on anti-corruption institutions.

The article also claimed that SBU chief Vasyl Maliuk was allegedly dismissed after refusing to target anti-corruption activists.

However, a source within the Ukrainian government told RBC-Ukraine that claims about preparations for several more years of war are false and described them as “an old narrative.”

The Economist also noted that some of its sources are optimistic about the possibility of renewed peace talks as early as this summer, although most believe the war will continue until one side capitulates.

The publication added that it remains unclear when Russia might reach a breaking point despite sanctions and economic difficulties.

Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington remains ready to help facilitate an end to the war in Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy also previously said during a meeting with the Servant of the People faction that the hot phase of the war could end by November 2026.
