Ukraine has announced the expulsion of two Hungarian diplomats in response to a similar move by Budapest, which accused Ukrainian representatives of espionage.

This was announced by Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga.

According to him, the diplomats were given 48 hours to leave Ukraine. A note to this effect was handed to the Hungarian ambassador, who was summoned to the Foreign Ministry.

‘We are acting in response to Hungary’s actions, based on the principle of reciprocity and our national interests,’ Sybiga said.

Earlier, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó announced the expulsion of two Ukrainian diplomats accused of espionage. He also claimed that there was increased ‘anti-Hungarian propaganda’ in Ukraine.

On the morning of 9 May, the Security Service of Ukraine announced that it had exposed a Hungarian military intelligence network spying on Ukraine.

According to the Security Service, Hungarian military intelligence was gathering information about the security of the Zakarpattia region, searching for vulnerabilities in the region’s ground and air defences, and studying the socio-political views of local residents, including scenarios for their behaviour if Hungarian troops entered the region.
