U.S. President Donald Trump said Vladimir Putin kept a promised one-week pause on strikes against Ukraine’s energy sector. According to Trump, the arrangement lasted “from Sunday to Sunday,” after which the attacks resumed.

U.S. President Donald Trump, answering reporters’ questions at the White House, commented on Russia resuming attacks on Ukraine after a previously announced pause. He said the one-week pause ran “from Sunday to Sunday,” and then “it opened up” and “he hit them hard last night.”

Asked whether he was disappointed the pause did not last longer, Trump said he wanted Putin to end the war and added that he had spoken with him.

The comments came amid reports of a temporary halt in strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure that Trump discussed in late January, linking it to cold weather and saying that “one week is a lot.”
