Starting January 1, 2025, gas transportation tariffs for domestic consumers will quadruple.
This decision was made by the National Energy Regulatory Commission at a meeting on December 30, LIGA.net reports.
“In 2024, 85% of the GTS’s revenues came from gas transportation from Russia. Only 15% came from domestic consumers. To fully compensate for these losses, a tariff increase is necessary. We are aware of the situation and understand that Ukraine’s economy needs balanced decisions,” said Dmytro Lippa, CEO of the Ukrainian GTS Operator.
He also noted that the company has already taken steps to optimize costs, including closing compressor stations and reducing staff.
The new tariff for gas transportation will increase from UAH 124.16 to UAH 501.97 per 1,000 cubic meters, an increase of almost 305%.
Business representatives warn that this increase will create a serious financial burden for the industry.
“For the steel industry, this means additional costs of UAH 300 million annually. Given the increase in electricity tariffs, we cannot bear this burden,” said Sergey Belenky, Chairman of the Federation of Metallurgists.
