Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said that Russia currently does not have sufficient military capabilities to attack Poland. At the same time, he did not rule out that the Kremlin could try to organize a provocation.

Radosław Sikorski said this in an interview with the Italian newspaper Il Messaggero.

According to him, Poland takes threats from Russia seriously, given the historical experience of relations with Moscow. At the same time, in his opinion, Russia currently does not have enough resources for a direct attack.

“Today, Putin does not have the means to attack us: at most, he may try to stage some kind of provocation,” Sikorski said.

He added that concerns still remain because Russia attacked Ukraine based on optimistic and mistaken assessments.

In early July, The Telegraph reported that the United States had warned Poland several times about possible Russian plans to carry out an armed provocation on Polish territory in order to test NATO’s resolve.

Sikorski noted that he could neither confirm nor deny this information, but considered it likely because it had appeared in a reputable publication.

“That is why we are sending the Russians a signal: we know they are preparing something, just as it was before the invasion of Ukraine. And by exposing their intentions in advance, I hope we will be able to persuade them to abandon their aggressive position,” the minister said.
