        Search continues in Kyiv after Russian strike as number of injured rises to 99

        Kyiv is continuing to deal with the aftermath of the massive Russian strike that hit the city overnight on July 2. According to updated data, the number of injured has risen to 99. Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported the update.

        According to rescuers, the massive attack caused fires and destruction at residential buildings, civilian infrastructure sites and other facilities across 40 locations in the city.

        The worst damage was recorded in the Darnytskyi district. Two apartment buildings and 8 private houses were damaged there.

        Rescuers continue search operations and are clearing building structures at three locations. In the Obolonskyi district, they extinguished a fire at warehouse buildings.

        President Volodymyr Zelensky said rescuers had already cleared a significant part of the rubble, but the search operation would continue for as long as necessary.

        According to the president, 30 people were killed in the strike on Kyiv, and nearly 100 were injured, including children.

        Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, said three more people are currently unreachable and their fate remains unknown. The search continues.

        Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the search and rescue operation is continuing for a second day. Forensic experts are also working to identify body fragments.

        According to Klitschko, 56 injured people were in hospitals as of the morning, including 6 medical workers. Four injured children remain hospitalized.

        Doctors managed to stabilize the condition of a one-year-old boy, a five-year-old girl, their parents and grandmother. They remain in hospital and are showing positive progress.

        A 10-year-old boy reported earlier is likely to have been orphaned. His parents are considered missing. His grandfather is staying with him in hospital.

        According to the mayor, a 15-year-old girl is also currently considered missing.

        Psychologists from the State Emergency Service have provided assistance to 201 people.

        Zelensky also reported other Russian strikes across Ukraine. On the evening of July 2, Russian forces attacked Kryvyi Rih, striking the area of a garage cooperative. Seven people were injured, and residential buildings and two schools were damaged.

        Overnight, Russia attacked a private house in Kharkiv region, injuring 6 people, including three children. In Sumy region, a Russian drone hit an apartment building in the Romny community, killing 4 people, including a mother and her young daughter.

        The previous day, Russian forces also launched missile strikes on the regional hospital in Kherson. According to Zelensky, a doctor was killed and a nurse was injured.

        “Every day and every night, Russians strike ordinary civilian infrastructure, and terror is the only argument they have left for not stopping the war”, the president said.

        Zelensky stressed that reliable protection of Ukraine’s skies is needed as a prerequisite for diplomacy. Ukraine is counting on support from partners, especially on anti-ballistic systems.
