On March 16, American actor Sean Penn arrived in Kyiv and met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He skipped the Oscars ceremony to make the trip to Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the meeting with the actor.

“Thanks to you, Sean, we know what a true friend of Ukraine is. You have stood with Ukraine since the first day of the full-scale war. And today. And we know you will continue to stand with our country and our people,” Zelenskyy wrote.

The American actor won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in “One Battle After Another,” but was not present at the awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 15. During the ceremony, he was en route to Ukraine.

Sean Penn has visited Ukraine about ten times since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion. He also got a tattoo of the Ukrainian trident.

During one of his previous visits, Penn gave Volodymyr Zelenskyy one of his Oscar statuettes and said that the president could return it once the war is won.
