Russia is preparing an additional rapid mobilization of several hundred thousand people this autumn, which it plans to launch after a sham parliamentary election. The Kremlin intends to mobilize a similar number of Russians next year, in addition to its military recruitment under contract.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this following a report by Oleh Ivashchenko, head of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.
According to the president, Russia’s preparations for mobilization are confirmed by internal Russian documents. It is scheduled for autumn, after the so-called parliamentary election.
Zelenskyy said Putin wants to create the impression that Russians support the war. The president noted that all parties currently allowed to participate in Russia’s election oppose peace in one way or another.
After the vote, the Russian authorities plan to rapidly mobilize several hundred thousand people by the end of the year. The Kremlin wants to recruit roughly the same number next year, in addition to those joining the military under contract.
Ukraine is preparing active measures to make it as difficult as possible for Russia to implement these plans. Zelenskyy said he had assigned the relevant tasks to Ukrainian intelligence agencies and special services.
