On the evening of October 11, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported a Russian strike on Kharkiv’s Combined Heat and Power Plant No. 5 (CHP-5), following Donald Trump’s announcement of an energy ceasefire. Zelenskyy said Ukraine was ready to halt strikes on Russian energy facilities but expected Moscow to take reciprocal steps and Washington to provide clear details of the agreement between the United States and Russia.
Zelenskyy made the remarks in his evening address.
The Ukrainian president described Trump’s announcement of an energy ceasefire agreement as good news but stressed that the arrangement must be implemented in practice.
“Ukraine supports all genuine and reliable formats for a ceasefire and an end to the war. Ukraine is ready to refrain from striking Russian energy infrastructure, and we expect Russia to show the same willingness and the President of the United States to deliver on the agreement in this regard. We welcome such an agreement,” Zelenskyy said.
At the same time, he reported that Russian forces had continued attacking Ukraine with strike drones and aerial bombs throughout the day.
“Unfortunately, Russian Shahed drones have been in the skies all day today. There are Shaheds in the sky right now as well. And there have unfortunately been aerial bomb strikes. There have been strikes on our energy infrastructure. Just now, there was a strike on CHP-5 in the city of Kharkiv — on Kharkiv’s energy infrastructure,” the president said.
According to Zelenskyy, Russian forces carried out more than 200 strikes on electricity generation and transmission facilities in Ukraine over the past week alone. Another 17 strikes targeted gas and oil infrastructure.
During the same period, Russian attacks killed more than 150 people and injured more than 700 others.
The president recalled that Ukraine had repeatedly proposed steps toward de-escalation, but Russia had refused to support them.
“We very much hope that he will finally say something different to America, Ukraine, and the entire world. Something other than killings and deception. Something that will lead to a real and dignified peace. Ukraine wants peace. The question is whether Russia wants it,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
He also said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had already received the relevant orders, without specifying their contents.
“We are awaiting clear details of the dialogue between America and Russia, and we expect Putin to fulfill what President Trump has announced,” the head of state concluded.
Zelenskyy also emphasized that Ukraine continues to maintain contacts with the United States at all levels and remains ready to take steps that would end the war and ensure long-term security.
