Pro-Russian propagandist detained in Kharkiv for calling on Russia to seize Ukraine’s Left Bank

Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) has detained a Kharkiv resident who publicly supported Russian aggression and called for a change to Ukraine’s state borders.

This was reported by the spokesperson for the SBU in Kharkiv region, Vladyslav Abdula. The suspect is a 45-year-old employee of one of the region’s major publishing houses. According to the investigation, he actively promoted pro-Kremlin narratives in pro-Russian Telegram channels, posting comments under anti-Ukrainian content that called on Russian forces to seize Ukraine’s Left Bank and include Kharkiv as part of Russia.

In his online activity, the man justified Russia’s war crimes, referred to the occupation of Ukrainian territories as “liberation,” and expressed approval of strikes on the positions of Ukrainian defenders. According to the SBU, he also supported continuing Russia’s war against Ukraine “until all objectives” of the so-called “special military operation” were achieved.

A court-ordered linguistic examination confirmed that his statements contained elements of encroachment on Ukraine’s territorial integrity and public justification of armed aggression.

He has been formally charged under two articles of Ukraine’s Criminal Code: Parts 1 and 2 of Article 110 (encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine, committed repeatedly), and Parts 2 and 3 of Article 436-2 (justification, recognition as lawful, or denial of Russian armed aggression, committed repeatedly).

The suspect is currently in custody. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property. The operation was carried out by the SBU in Kharkiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional prosecutor’s office.
