The Eastern Shield project will make the Warmia and Mazury, Podlaskie, Lubelskie and Podkarpackie voivodeships safer, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said during his visit to Dąbrowka in the Budry Commune of the Warmia and Mazury Voivodeship, located near the border with the Królivets (Kaliningrad) region of Russia.
According to him, in addition to the Eastern Shield, fortifications will also be built on the border with Ukraine.
According to Polskie Radio, he also stressed that there are no plans to forcibly relocate local residents in these regions.
‘Our activities also include ensuring security on the border with Ukraine – for other reasons, but we want Poles to feel safe along the entire length of the eastern border,’ the prime minister added.
‘The Eastern Shield is a project of the Polish Ministry of Defence and the General Staff, which involves the construction of various fortifications and other defence infrastructure on the borders with Russia and Belarus.
By 2028, it is planned to create intelligence and threat detection systems, advanced bases, logistics hubs, warehouses, and drone countermeasures on an area of about 800 km². A total of PLN 10 billion (about €2.3 billion) has been allocated for this purpose.
