Moldova counts 100% of ballots in presidential election and EU referendum

The Republic of Moldova held presidential elections. At the same time, citizens were voting on amendments to the Constitution on the country’s accession to the European Union.

According to the results of 100% of the ballots, the incumbent head of state Maia Sandu won the majority of votes with 42.45%. Her key opponent, Alexandru Stoianoglo, received 25.98%.

The second round of elections is scheduled for 3 November.

The vote in favour of European integration was 50.46%, against 49.54%.


The EU said that the election campaign in Moldova took place in the context of unprecedented interference by Russia, which tried to destabilise the democratic process.
