Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk advanced to the round of 16 at the 2026 US Open after defeating “neutral” Ekaterina Alexandrova in straight sets. With the victory, the Ukrainian matched her best-ever result at the tournament in New York.

Kostyuk made a confident start and took a 3-0 lead in the opening set. Alexandrova managed to reduce the deficit, but the Ukrainian maintained her advantage and won the set 6-3.
In the second set, the “neutral” player broke first and went 2-0 up, but Kostyuk then won six consecutive games to close out the match 6-2.
The match lasted 1 hour and 18 minutes. Kostyuk hit four aces to her opponent’s one and significantly outperformed Alexandrova in winners, 23 to eight.
Kostyuk had previously faced Alexandrova twice and lost both matches — in Rome in 2021 and Portoroz in 2022. This victory was the Ukrainian’s first against Alexandrova.
Reaching the round of 16 allowed Kostyuk to match her personal best at the US Open, having also reached this stage last season.
In the next round, the Ukrainian will face the winner of the match between sixth-seeded Linda Noskova of the Czech Republic and American Ann Li.
