French President Emmanuel Macron said that starting January 6 in Paris, European countries and allies will take on concrete commitments to protect Ukraine. According to him, these steps are intended to ensure a just and lasting peace on the European continent.

French President Emmanuel Macron made the statement in his New Year’s address to the nation. He stressed that Europe is facing an increasingly harsh world, in which war continues on European soil following a new phase of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

Macron said Europe must defend its independence and freedoms by investing in defence and security. According to him, European defence, which for a long time remained a subject of debate, has already begun to take shape, and this process will accelerate in 2026.
