The defendant Konstantin D. (26) is a Ukrainian from Kharkiv, now far from the war in his homeland. In safe Berlin he had enough for vodka, ecstasy, cocaine, marijuana (‘instead of cigarettes’) and a rented flat in the district of Hellersdorf, writes Bild.
In the flat also lived Yulia (25 years old, name changed). In September 2023, the Ukrainian was 9 months pregnant.
According to the indictment, Konstantin D. dragged his cohabitant out of bed in the morning and put a kitchen knife to her neck. He then strangled her until she lost consciousness. When the woman regained consciousness, he pounced on her and raped her. He then threatened her: ‘Now I have to kill you too!’ The Ukrainian eventually let her go and fled – with the 70 euros he had stolen from his victim.
A few months later, he was arrested in Poland and extradited to Germany. In court, he confessed to his crime. ‘Your Honour, it’s all true,’ the accused said. ‘Guilty, I admit it. I behaved like an animal. Unforgivable. Disrespected women. I am ready for my punishment.’
The Ukrainian faces at least five years in prison. When he serves half of his sentence, he could be deported.
Bild reports that Yulia’s baby was born healthy shortly afterwards and is now a year old.
