US President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk are no longer inseparable. The relationship between the most influential duo seems to have come to an end. The US president has stopped publicly supporting the billionaire and endlessly mentioning him in speeches and on social media.
This is reported by the German publication Bild.
Initially, attention was drawn to the fact that Trump stopped mentioning Musk, his chief adviser on reducing the government apparatus DOGE, on social media. In February and March, Musk’s name appeared on average four times a week. Now, as the Independent notes, he seems to have been “erased.”

A source from the Republican Party was even more blunt in a comment to Politico: “He’s finished, he’s done. His ratings are terrible. People hate him.”
Elon Musk also announced a significant reduction in political contributions. Fact: Last year, Musk invested $290 million in Trump’s election campaign. Political committees under his control recently allocated $20 million to local court elections in Wisconsin, with another $100 million earmarked for groups and politicians close to Trump.
“At a business forum in Qatar, Musk said, ‘I think I’ve donated enough.’ In other words, he’s closing his wallet,” writes Bild.
Trump and Musk seem to be going their separate ways, but this could be beneficial for both. For Trump, his “best friend” has become a burden due to excessive job cuts that have sparked public outrage. According to polls, Musk’s popularity has fallen to just over 30%.
Musk’s activities on behalf of the president have cost him his business empire. Tesla has become the target of protests, boycotts, and even arson attacks. The company’s sales have plummeted: only 885 Tesla cars were sold in Germany in March.
Musk announced his gradual departure from Washington to focus on running Tesla, SpaceX, and other companies. He reassured nervous Tesla investors with a promise to remain CEO for at least five years.
