Police officers have searched the offices of Georgian opposition parties and the homes of administrators of the Facebook platform “Daitovi”, where participants and organizers of protests exchange information, Echo of the Caucasus reports.
According to media reports, the police searched the offices of the Coalition for Change, Droa and Hirchi – More Freedom parties, as well as one of the headquarters of the United National Movement party, created by former President Mikheil Saakashvili.
Following the searches, the founder of Mtavari and one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, Nika Gvaramia, and an activist and member of the Coalition for Change, Gel Hasai, were detained. Local media reported that Gwaramiya was beaten during his detention.
The searches and detentions took place on the eve of further protests that are expected to take place in several cities on the evening of December 4. The protests in Georgia have been going on since November 28. They began after the Georgian authorities decided to suspend negotiations on the country’s accession to the European Union until the end of 2028.
