The Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police thwarted an attempt by Russian special services to carry out a terrorist attack in Zhytomyr.
This was reported by the SBU press center.
Two Russian agents were detained who were preparing to blow up a police unit that was supposed to respond to a fake call to the 102 line.
The attackers rented an apartment in the regional center and installed two improvised explosive devices. One of the devices was hidden in a soft toy, the other was connected to a cell phone whose camera was filming the entrance to the apartment.

“With the help of remote access to this gadget, the enemy planned to activate both IEDs when the police entered the room through the open door. By this time, the agents were to leave the rented apartment and hide in a hotel room to receive further instructions from their Russian handler,” the statement said.
Law enforcement officers were proactive and detained the criminals in the hotel.
The detainees are two young men from Dnipropetrovs’k region who were recruited by the enemy through Telegram channels. After arriving in Zhytomyr, they received instructions and geolocation to carry out the attack. The explosive devices were stuffed with stones to increase the destructive effect.
The criminals are currently in custody. They were served a notice of suspicion of attempted terrorist attack and face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
