The Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police prevented an attempted bomb attack on a family of volunteers in Cherkasy region. The victims were the head of a charitable foundation that supports the Defense Forces and her husband, a demobilized Armed Forces soldier who was seriously wounded at the front.
According to the SBU, the special operation neutralized a criminal group that tried to blow up the volunteers in their home with improvised explosive devices. The motive for the attempt was the victims’ alleged refusal to pay a fictitious debt for repairs to their house.
The offenders prepared four improvised explosive devices equipped with gunpowder, nuts and ignition cords. The plan was to throw the explosives into the bedroom where the volunteers were supposed to rest.
During the searches, the SBU seized improvised explosive devices, components for making explosives and mobile phones with evidence of criminal activity.
The criminals are in custody and face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
