The Swedish Coast Guard has recorded damage to another communication cable in the Swedish economic zone in the Baltic Sea, near the island of Gotland.

According to SVT, the C-Lion 1 telecommunication cable of the Finnish state-owned company Cinia, which connects Finland and Germany, was damaged in the Swedish exclusive economic zone.

In November 2024, it was already reported that this cable was damaged. A few days after the break, it was repaired. The Chinese bulk carrier Yi Peng 3 was suspected of damaging the cable.

It is not known when the cable was damaged this time. The Swedish Coast Guard said it had been aware of the incident since February 20. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said he was aware of the incident.

“We take all reports of possible damage to infrastructure in the Baltic Sea very seriously. As I said, they must be considered in the context of a serious security situation,” he added.
