The leadership of the Bavarian branch of the right-wing populist party Alternative for Germany (AfD) has called for the immediate deportation of Ukrainian refugees. This was stated by the head of the AfD faction in the Bavarian Landtag, Katrin Ebner-Steiner, the Süddeutsche Zeitung reports.

On 14-15 January, the Bavarian branch of the AfD held a meeting in Regensburg, following which it published two policy documents: ‘A Plan for the Future, a New Start for Bavaria’ and “A Package Against Islamisation”. There is not a single word about Ukraine in these documents, they only talk about ‘re-emigration’ and ‘expulsion of criminals and foreigners without the right to reside’. In a commentary to Sat.1, Ebner-Steiner stated that she demanded ‘re-emigration so that this country does not become further Islamised’. ‘Bavaria needs re-emigration,’ the politician wrote on the social network X.

However, SZ correspondent Johann Ozel, who attended the meeting of the Bavarian AfD, writes that Ebner-Steiner also spoke about the expulsion of Ukrainians. According to the journalist, the politician said that Ukrainian refugees should immediately return to their homeland, ‘and right now’. The AfD representative said that Ukraine is a large country with ‘enough territory’ to return to. According to her estimates, including Ukrainians, the number of those who could be expelled from Germany is close to 2 million people. She called for a ‘large-scale re-emigration’ so that Bavaria would not be ‘flooded with welfare recipients who do not want to integrate’ and advocated the introduction of a ‘refugee emergency’ in the region to refuse to accommodate them.
