        About 40 Ballistic Missiles Target Kyiv: What Is Known About the Aftermath

        The Russian army launched a massive ballistic missile strike on Kyiv overnight on July 19. An 89-year-old woman was killed in the attack, while the number of injured rose to 15, according to updated information from Ukraine’s State Emergency Service.

        According to monitoring channels, Russian forces may have used about 40 ballistic missiles launched from the Bryansk and Kursk regions.

        The State Emergency Service initially reported strikes and fires in five districts of the capital. Kyiv police later clarified that the Desnianskyi, Dniprovskyi, Podilskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Solomianskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts had come under attack.

        An 89-year-old woman was killed in the Shevchenkivskyi district. Police also reported that 13 people sustained injuries in the Shevchenkivskyi, Desnianskyi and Solomianskyi districts. The State Emergency Service later clarified that the total number of injured had increased to 15.

        In the Solomianskyi district, rescuers extinguished a fire in an office building and put out fires in residential and non-residential buildings. Emergency work continued at the site of damage to a five-storey residential building.

        In the Shevchenkivskyi district, fires involving cars and a three-storey building were extinguished, while rescuers worked to free people from the rubble. Firefighters also contained fires in non-residential buildings and in an open area.

        In the Sviatoshynskyi district, a fire on the roof of a private residential house was extinguished. Rescuers evacuated four residents from the building.

        In the Desnianskyi district, fires in non-residential buildings at two locations were contained and later extinguished. In the Dniprovskyi district, fires involving vehicles, a non-residential building and a dormitory were reported.

        According to police, the attack damaged apartment blocks and private homes, a dormitory, a cinema building, a metro station, office premises and parked cars across Kyiv.

        Investigative teams, bomb disposal experts, forensic specialists, rescuers, medics and other emergency services are working at the strike sites. Police are documenting the consequences of the attack and collecting evidence of a war crime committed against Ukraine’s civilian population.
