During a phone call with Estonia’s new president, Ülle Madise, Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed preparations for trilateral talks between Ukraine, the United States and Russia at the delegation level, which are planned for November. The Ukrainian president stressed that his country was ready for negotiations at any time and supported Europe’s involvement in the peace process.
The Office of the President of Ukraine reported on the conversation on October 26.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated Ülle Madise on taking office and wished the people of Estonia success in achieving their goals. He also expressed gratitude for assurances that Estonia would continue supporting Ukraine.
During the call, Zelenskyy shared details of the talks in Oslo and contacts with the American side following its meeting in Russia. According to the Ukrainian president, an agreement had been reached to hold a trilateral meeting at the delegation level as early as November. Zelenskyy stressed the importance of avoiding any delay.
“Ukraine is ready for negotiations at any time, and our position is that the sooner talks begin, the better. Of course, like Estonia and our other partners, we have always advocated Europe’s presence in the negotiations. Europe must have a say in every format capable of delivering real decisions,” the president said.
The two leaders also discussed the consequences of Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy and railway infrastructure. Zelenskyy said Russia was deliberately trying to destroy Ukrainian locomotives. According to him, any assistance in expanding the country’s fleet of locomotives would be extremely valuable.
