After a massive Russian strike on Kyiv, Boryspil and Brovary, Ukraine is preparing a response. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said it would be long-range, while Ukraine’s capabilities for such strikes would receive additional resources.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in his evening address on August 20.

Today’s Russian attack was combined, involving ballistic and cruise missiles as well as drones. Countering ballistic missiles remains the most difficult task for Ukrainian air defense.

“If the interception rate of cruise missiles in this strike was about 90%, the situation with ballistic missiles is significantly worse. We need missiles for Patriots, and that is something only our partners can provide,” Zelenskyy said.

The president stressed that Ukraine is ready to buy such weapons, but supplies require political decisions from partners, primarily the United States.

As a result of the Russian strike, 16 people were killed and almost 50 others were injured. More than 200 facilities were damaged, including 86 residential buildings, a children’s hospital, social infrastructure and commercial facilities.

“We will definitely respond to this Russian strike just as we have to other Russian strikes — we will respond completely fairly and with long-range capabilities. Ukraine’s long-range capabilities will receive even more resources,” Zelenskyy said.
