Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he has instructed the Defense Forces and special services to prepare possible response options to a massive Russian strike on Ukraine on May 13–14. Russia used 1,567 drones and 56 missiles of various types in the attack.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on May 14.
During a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Headquarters, Ukrainian military officials reported on a defensive operation conducted during the massive Russian attack, which lasted nearly two days. According to Zelenskyy, Russia had stockpiled drones and missiles to launch a strike that would place maximum strain on Ukraine’s air defense system.
In waves of attacks on May 13 and 14, Russian forces used 1,567 drones and 56 missiles of various types. Ukrainian air defense forces shot down 94% of the drones and 73% of the missiles.
The High Command also discussed the needs of the air defense forces, specifically the supply of radars and anti-ballistic systems. Zelenskyy noted that he had issued the relevant orders to the General Staff, the Air Force, and the Ministry of Defense.
“Everyone must focus on anti-ballistic systems and the missiles for them. This is the number one priority, and the assessment of Ukrainian diplomacy in May–June will depend, in particular, on the adequate provision of our air defense forces. I have instructed the Ukrainian Defense Forces and special services to propose possible formats for our response to this Russian strike,” the statement reads.
