Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he does not expect negotiations with Russia before the end of Russia’s parliamentary “elections.” At the same time, the Ukrainian side plans to meet with the U.S. team in New York at the end of September, after which, he said, there may be an opportunity to speak more openly about the next steps.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this while speaking to the media alongside Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
“I don’t think we will have negotiations before the parliamentary ‘elections’ in Russia are over. But at the end of September, we will have an opportunity to meet with the American team in New York,” the president said.
Speaking about a possible outcome of a trilateral meeting, Zelenskyy said partners are raising the issue of exports of grain and other agricultural products, which Russia is blocking in the Black Sea.
“We responded and did the same. We have to respond, otherwise Russia will never stop this war because it will never feel it. The same applies to energy,” he said.
The president also said that last month he held talks with Egypt, India, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and the United States. According to him, all of his counterparts understand that blocking food supplies is a global problem.
Zelenskyy added that further developments depend on Russia, but expressed doubt that it is ready to show flexibility. At the same time, strong world leaders can force Moscow to take a different position.
