Zelenskyy: Ballistic missiles could not be intercepted

Eleven people, including a child, were injured in Kyiv during the overnight Russian attack. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported this.

According to him, strikes on civilian infrastructure were recorded even before the air raid alert was announced. Residential buildings, offices and a theological seminary were damaged in the capital.

Emergency services are working at the affected sites. Efforts to deal with the consequences of the strikes are also continuing in the Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions.

Zelenskyy said Russia used more than 120 drones and 12 missiles overnight, half of which were ballistic.

Ukrainian defenders managed to shoot down most of the aerial targets, but the ballistic missiles could not be intercepted.

The president called on partners to fulfil their promises regarding support packages to protect Ukrainians, which were agreed upon during the NATO meeting.

According to him, agreements on licences for Patriot systems and a joint European anti-ballistic missile defence project must be implemented as quickly as possible.

Zelenskyy stressed that securing these agreements is the number one task for all Ukrainian institutions.
