Ukrainian and Finnish companies have signed three memorandums on cooperation in the defence industry. The agreements cover drone production in Finland, the development of uncrewed maritime systems and the establishment of a facility to manufacture ground-based robotic systems.
The documents were signed during a roundtable attended by Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Alexander Stubb, according to the Office of the President of Ukraine.
Representatives of seven Finnish companies participated in the event: Boomeranger, Insta, Patria, Nokia, Nest AI, Sensofusion and ICEYE. The roundtable on cooperation between the two countries’ defence companies was organised with the participation of the Ukrainian Council of Defence Industry.
Zelenskyy said the partnership would combine Ukraine’s battlefield experience with Finnish technology.
“Now that our military and defence sector has grown, we can cooperate. We have launched joint production, and we have not only agreements and papers — we have real instruments and tangible results,” the Ukrainian president said.
The signed documents provide for:
- the development and production of drones in Finland for Ukraine and European countries;
- the expansion of capabilities in uncrewed maritime systems;
- the establishment of a facility producing ground-based robotic systems.
The Finnish president said Ukraine’s capabilities in modern warfare were among the best in Europe and that cooperation would benefit both countries.
“In the short term, we will be able to help you as much as we can, while in the long term, you will likewise help us,” Stubb said.
He added that the comprehensive partnership would also encompass cyberspace and space technologies. At the political level, Ukraine and Finland are continuing work on the Drone Deal, while the bilateral security agreement signed in 2024 remains the foundation of their partnership.
