Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a new initiative aimed at reducing hostilities during Easter. In his evening update based on the report from Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, Zelensky stated that as of 8 p.m. on Easter Sunday, Russian forces had violated their declared ceasefire over 2,000 times.
According to the report, Russian troops launched 67 assaults on Ukrainian positions, with the highest concentration on the Pokrovsk front. A total of 1,355 shelling incidents were recorded, including 713 involving heavy weaponry. Additionally, 673 FPV drone attacks were carried out by Russian forces.
Zelensky emphasized that Moscow had failed to uphold its own commitment to a ceasefire along nearly all major front lines. Despite Ukraine’s earlier offer of a 30-day complete ceasefire beginning on Easter, Russia has not yet responded.
The Ukrainian president highlighted that, despite intense fighting on the ground, there were no air raid alerts throughout the day. He called this a sign of achievable calm and proposed a specific new step: a 30-day moratorium on long-range drone and missile strikes targeting civilian infrastructure, with the possibility of extension.
“If Russia refuses such a step, it will prove that its goal is to continue destroying civilian lives and prolonging the war,” Zelensky said.
