‘We must implement as quickly as possible everything that can support the stability of our state and society,’ Zelensky said.

He also announced the start of the transformation of the executive branch in Ukraine:

‘I have offered Yulia Svyrydenko to head the Ukrainian government and significantly revamp its work. I expect the new government’s action programme to be presented in the near future.’

The meeting also discussed the expansion of citizen support programmes and the scaling up of arms production in Ukraine.

Earlier, both Western and Ukrainian media reported that the head of the Ukrainian government would be replaced in the near future. It was also reported that the issue of replacing Oksana Markarova, Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, who was criticised by Trump’s allies last autumn, had been resolved.

The Ukrainian president discussed Markarova’s replacement with US President Donald Trump during a telephone conversation on 4 July. He named several candidates for the position: Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Defence Minister Umerov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Olha Stefanishyna, and Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko.
