Russian forces may be preparing a major offensive against Kherson, using a temporary ceasefire around occupied Oleshky to move troops and military equipment. Reports point to heavy movements of Russian military convoys, the deployment of Grad multiple rocket launchers and the relocation of drone units closer to the Dnipro River.
German newspaper Bild reported this, citing several Ukrainian soldiers who described Russian military activity near Kherson.
A ceasefire has been in effect around Oleshky for two days to allow a humanitarian mission and the evacuation of local residents.
However, Ukrainian soldiers told Bild that drone footage showed extensive Russian military preparations for a possible offensive. They believe an attack could begin immediately after the ceasefire ends on November 1.
One soldier said Russian KamAZ trucks carrying combat units were moving almost continuously. Anti-drone nets were also being installed across the industrial area of Kakhovka, east of Oleshky. Ukrainian troops believe Russian forces may be establishing a front stretching approximately 100 kilometers along the Dnipro River.
Residents of occupied Hola Prystan, about 14 kilometers southwest of Kherson, have also reported large numbers of Russian military trucks.
“The forest near Radensk is also packed with Grad multiple rocket launchers. Trees are being cut down and the timber taken away. Shelters are being reinforced. They’re preparing something bad,” Bild quoted a Ukrainian soldier as saying.
Another soldier reported that Russian forces were moving drone units closer to the Dnipro River.
“The situation will definitely escalate after the ceasefire ends,” he said, adding that he could not rule out an attempt by Russian troops to cross the river.
Bild also highlighted problems surrounding the planned evacuation of Oleshky residents. According to the newspaper, approximately 2,000 people remain in the town, but many are unaware of the opportunity to leave because they lack internet access.
Residents must register in advance to be evacuated. Bild also reported that only people are allowed to leave — pets cannot be taken along.
