Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky considers Putin’s proposal for direct negotiations a ‘good sign.’
‘It is a good sign that the Russians are finally thinking about ending the war. Everyone in the world has been waiting for this for a very long time. And the first step towards a real end to any war is a ceasefire,’ he wrote on social media, adding that ’there is no point in continuing the killings even for a day.’
At the same time, Zelenskyy expects Russia to confirm a ceasefire – ‘complete, lasting and reliable – starting tomorrow, 12 May, and Ukraine is ready to meet.’
As reported, Putin announced tonight that he is ready for direct talks with Ukraine next Thursday, 15 May, in Istanbul. He also stressed that the talks should take place without any preconditions.
