On October 8, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Omsk oil refinery in Russia, located more than 2,500 km from the Ukrainian border. According to Ukrainian manufacturer Fire Point, the strike was carried out using upgraded FP-1 drones, and a fire broke out at the facility following the impact.
This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Omsk refinery is Russia’s largest oil refining facility. According to the General Staff, the plant is capable of processing more than 21 million tonnes of crude oil per year and produces a wide range of fuels, lubricants and petrochemical products.
Fire Point said the facility has an annual processing capacity of 22.23 million tonnes of crude oil. The refinery is owned by Gazprom Neft.
According to the General Staff, the facility is involved in supplying the Russian occupation forces.
This is not the first attack on the Omsk refinery. On July 6, 2026, Ukrainian forces struck the ELOU-AVT-11 primary oil processing unit, which has a design capacity of 8.4 million tonnes of crude oil per year.
The General Staff stressed that strikes on such facilities are aimed at reducing Russia’s military and economic potential.
