Zelenskiy calls for tougher sanctions on Russia after massive overnight attack

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy commented on one of the most massive Russian attacks in recent weeks. He reported this in a social media post.

According to Zelenskiy, Ukrainian air defense forces, mobile fire units, and drone interceptor crews worked throughout the night and morning. Civilian cities came under attack, with energy infrastructure as the main target, but many residential buildings were also hit.

Fires broke out in Zaporizhzhia, and residential buildings were damaged in Kyiv. Kyiv, Odesa, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, Poltava, Vinnytsia, Zaporizhzhia, Cherkasy, and Sumy regions were affected. As of now, 17 people are known to have been injured, and six people, including two children, were killed.

The president said that Russia does not feel enough pressure for prolonging the war. He urged international partners to adopt a new strong sanctions package by the European Union and expressed hope for decisive steps from the United States and the G7 nations.

“It is very important that the world does not remain silent now, and that there is a joint response to Russia’s vile strikes,” Zelenskiy said.

He also thanked everyone helping Ukraine with air defense systems and missiles, stressing that providing Ukraine with long-range capabilities will bring the end of the war closer.
