Russia carried out a massive drone and missile attack on Ukraine, leaving people killed and more than 40 injured, including children. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the scale of the strikes shows Moscow has no real intention of ending the war.
According to Zelenskyy, Russia launched more than 550 drones of various types over the course of the day, many of them “Shahed” drones. Although most were shot down, hits were recorded in multiple regions, including Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Rivne, as well as Kharkiv and Dnipro regions.
He said energy infrastructure was among the main targets, along with residential buildings and city centers. In Lviv, a fire broke out in buildings of St. Andrew’s Church, which dates back to the early 17th century.
“Iranian ‘Shaheds’, modernized by Russia, are hitting a church in Lviv — this is absolute perversion,” Zelenskyy said.
In Ivano-Frankivsk, a maternity hospital was damaged, he added.
Zelenskyy stressed that the scale of the attack clearly demonstrates that Russia has no intention of ending the war. He called for stronger international pressure on Moscow, noting that without it, Russia will not step back from aggression.
“Without additional and strong pressure on Russia… there will be no willingness to move away from war,” he said.
Zelenskyy also stated that the easing of sanctions against Russia encourages it to continue the war and provides it with additional revenues.
