President Volodymyr Zelensky said that after Russia’s latest strikes on Ukrainian cities, Ukraine and Europe must move faster to strengthen anti-ballistic defenses. According to him, such capabilities can save more lives from Russian missile attacks.
The president said this in his address.
Zelensky said Russia had launched a missile strike on infrastructure in Dnipro. A rescue operation is ongoing at the site, with all emergency services involved.
According to the president, five people are currently known to have been killed in Dnipro. Another 29 people were injured.
“My condolences to their families and loved ones,” Zelensky said.
The president also mentioned Russia’s strike on Zaporizhzhia, where a drone attacked an ordinary passenger minibus. Three people were killed in that attack, and six others were injured, including a child.
In addition, Zelensky said Russian forces carried out a repeat strike on rescuers and a fire truck in Nikopol. Russia also attacked energy infrastructure in Sumy, Odesa and Chernihiv regions.
The president separately reported strikes on Kherson and Kharkiv region.
Zelensky stressed that Ukraine needs more protection from Russian terror. First of all, he said, this means anti-ballistic systems.
“There must be more protection for people from such horrific strikes. First of all, we need anti-ballistic defense,” the president said.
He also emphasized that Europe must work as actively as possible on its own anti-ballistic defense — with its own systems and missiles.
“The faster such capabilities grow, the more lives can be protected,” Zelensky said.
