People’s deputies sent an appeal to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy to award journalist Viktoria Roshchina the title of Hero of Ukraine. 246 MPs voted in favor of this.

In 2022, Viktoria Roshchina received the International Women’s Media Foundation’s “For Courage in Journalism” award. The journalist worked for Ukrainian Radio, UA:First, hromadske, as well as Ukrainska Pravda, Novosti Donbassa, Censor.net, and Radio Svoboda.
In March 2022, the occupiers detained Roschchina in the temporarily occupied territory, but later released her. After that, the journalist tried to enter the temporarily occupied territory for the second time and disappeared on August 3.
On April 24, 2025, it became known that Viktoria Roshchina’s body had been returned to Ukraine. Investigators from Forbidden Stories learned that the Ukrainian journalist’s body had been returned without some internal organs. Ukrainian investigators are still refraining from assessing the cause of death.
The Russians informed Roshchina’s family that she had died on September 19, 2024.
