Near Dobropillia in the Donetsk region, Russian troops, according to preliminary information, shot dead two Ukrainian servicemen after taking them prisoner. Law enforcement officers have opened a criminal investigation and are working to identify those involved in the killings.
This was reported by Ukraine’s Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets.
According to him, on September 2, two servicemen of the National Guard of Ukraine were at a combat position in a forest belt near Dobropillia when they were captured by Russian troops.
After being taken prisoner, the Ukrainian servicemen were reportedly shot with automatic weapons.
Lubinets stressed that the execution of prisoners of war is a grave violation of international humanitarian law.
Law enforcement agencies have opened a criminal investigation into the incident. Investigators are currently establishing all the circumstances of the crime and identifying the Russian servicemen who may have been involved in the killings.
The ombudsman also said he had sent official letters to the International Committee of the Red Cross and the United Nations so that the case could be documented.
